Work under the supervision of manufacturing supervisor, uses a variety of machine hand tools and precision measuring instruments.  Interprets drawings and specifications for the manufacturing and rework of company related tools.  Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly Machine Shop and adheres to safety standards while performing the job.


Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments and workpiece on machine.

Install cutting tools in machine.

Load control media, such as tape, card or disk, in machine controller or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from data base.

Calculate and set machine controls to position tools in relationship to workpiece and to regulate factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.

Start machine and monitor displays and machine operations to detect malfunctions.

Stop machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments, under supervision.

Maintain proper maintenance of machine, equipment and facilities and keep in proper condition.

Must provide all needed measuring tools and tool box to keep them in.

Keep the machine area clean and orderly at all times.

Responsible for recording all labor hours with time system accurately.

Awareness of production scheduling and shop floor controls used by Weatherford.

Handle machine finished items in a careful manner to prevent damage, maintain a neat and orderly work area, and function in a safe and reliable manner to prevent personal injury and/or property damage.

Responsible for cleaning machine and area prior to leaving each day.

Capable of learning and moving to the next highest level.

Know and understand the Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality System Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Work Place Instructions

Understand and comply with all Safety and Environmental requirements and company policies of Weatherford.

Perform various other duties assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.



Ability to set-up and run any CNC lathe and some mills with no assistance and troubleshoot same programs for potential errors.

Ability to program jobs at the machine if required.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Scrap rate is consistently below 3% of output.  Meets or beats production requirements.

Ability to completely inspect machined parts.

Ability to set-up and run two similar machines during lunch, break or absence of operators.

Ability and willingness train new employees in proper machining techniques.

Ability to read a measuring tape, micrometer and calipers.

Ability to use geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to make process improvement suggestions and/or participate on process improvement teams.

3-5 or more years of experience required.

The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations.


Advanced knowledge of machines used, and processes.

Machining technical courses.

Ability to work in a team oriented environment.

Ability and desire to be at work in time and learn new skills.
