JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SCOPE

 

The role is responsible for driving strategies and goals of the Technical Accounting Group.  It focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining technical accounting policies of Weatherford from a US GAAP perspective.  The group is also responsible for collaborating with field and corporate personnel on technical accounting issues and performs work over certain areas including goodwill, fair value / valuations, foreign currency, joint ventures and consolidation, leases, and revenue recognition. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work collaboratively with regional and product-line business unit managers and controllers, corporate finance staff, internal audit, external auditors, and other key stakeholders with a focus on technical accounting matters and policies.

Completes, reviews, and/or oversees the completion of memorandums to document the company’s application of GAAP.

Works closely with M&A and tax team members as their projects relate to technical accounting matters and valuations.

Works with regional management and other stakeholders to identify potential policy and practice improvement opportunities. 

Works with other special project team leaders to ensure their initiatives are appropriately considered and integrated with Weatherford’s accounting policies and practices.

Establishes and maintains excellent open, professional, and collaborative relationships with all levels of management from entry-level personnel, to regional controllers and other executives.

Identifies and assesses new risk areas that arise as a result of major projects or process changes and changes in U.S. GAAP and advises business owners to ensure appropriate application of GAAP is in place prior to implementing business changes or the effective date of changes in U.S. GAAP.

Responsible for certain controls related to the Technical Accounting department.

Responds to certain internal and external auditor requests in connection with quarterly reviews and annual audit requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must have a strong interest in financial accounting and possess deep skills in research and determining the proper accounting and reporting treatment for significant and sometimes complex transactions.

Solid communication skills (both written and verbal) are a must; must have the ability to listen intently and the ability to adapt communication style and convey thoughts to a wide range of audiences

Competent and experienced in technical accounting matters (U.S. GAAP), particularly revenue recognition, long-lived assets, and leasing.   

Ability to understand business matters and translate that into the appropriate application of U.S. GAAP.  Current on accounting and controls, principles and regulations.

Creative thinking is a must, as the role is as much technical as it is strategic and transformative.  While the role involves implementing policies and near-term technical solutions, it also involves creating and managing long-term strategic initiatives

Solid people skills are a must, as it requires working collaboratively with various stakeholders while ensuring progress is made.

Respectful, humble, professional, and patient attitude in all forms of communication.  Ability to quickly adjust to changes with a supportive and cooperative attitude.

Ability to take full leadership responsibility and develop and report on a project plan, providing regular updates to management to ensure timely completion.  Ability to work independently.

Ability to understand the field personnel’s unique business aspects and situations as well as the company’s goals and objectives.

Ability and willingness to understand details and work to identify "best practices"; yet remained focused on the larger goals and desired outcomes (i.e. the "big picture").

Maintain a high degree of integrity and high professional standards in a truthful and consistent character.

Ability to handle multiple projects and initiatives and complete each within their prescribed time frames.

Microsoft Office proficiency required.

Command of English language.

Ability to travel up to 10-15%.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.

Must be a Certified / Chartered Public Accountant (or foreign equivalent).

8+ years overall related, professional experience.

Preferred:

Oilfield services industry experience.

Skills in fair valuation and forecasting.

Mix of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience.

Prior experience in a similar role.

Experience with HFM and or JD Edwards
