The Design Engineer roles and responsibilities (listed in no particular order)

Assists in the design, layout, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems.

Assists in product development activities including drawing board layout and interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.

Provides support for more senior Engineers in existing product line design activities and/or modification of hardware in production.

Performs tasks/projects of a limited scope under limited supervision; demonstrates ability to work independently.

Fundamentals coursework should include: thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, static and dynamics, kinematics and design of mechanisms,  mechanical processing of materials (“shop processes”), basic circuit design, CAD with emphasis on technical drawing fundamentals.

Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing and operational facilities, including field visits, to support the development and sustaining of products.

Willingness and ability to assist with hands-on physical assembly and operation of machinery for product testing and troubleshooting




 A minimum of a four year Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognized University or professional licensing is required

Basic understanding and application of engineering fundamentals covering engineering design, math and calculations, material selection, fluids, stress analysis, heat transfer and thermodynamics, CAD solid modeling or component selection, analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit design.

Proficient written and verbal English (for report writing and presenting).

Familiarity with engineering tools and software: i.e. Excel, MathCAD, Windchill (or equivalent), FEA, MathCAD, kinematic and dynamics analyses, CFD, CREO or other 3D CAD systems.

Proficiency in computer use and Microsoft Office Suite Programs
