JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Sales and Use Tax Analyst will be responsible for filing monthly sales and use tax returns, assisting with state and local tax audit defense, keeping abreast with law changes, and managing business licenses and registrations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales and Use Tax Audits - Assist and/or lead sales and use tax audits including gathering information, locating hard copy supporting documents or soft copy reports and documentation from accounting or tax systems.

Sales and Use Tax Compliance - Prepare and submit all required tax returns by required deadline, including maintaining all proper supporting documentation and up to date listing of required returns with filing requirement (i.e., monthly quarterly, etc.), processing on-line or manual payment request, and submitting all documentation for management review as well as to Treasury and AP department.

Account Reconciliations - Perform monthly reconciliations of sales activity from general ledger to Vertex (tax software), including researching/documenting reconciling items.

Tax Disputes - Perform research to resolve customer short payment issues related to sales tax, including communicate with customers as well as employees within the organization to gather information, validate tax exemption certificate data, input data into Vertex, create credit memo or manual adjustment within accounting system and prepare supporting documentation for routing and approval to management.

Permits, Licenses and Registrations Management - Maintain sales tax permits, registrations and renewals including ensuring that updated forms and requirements are being met by various states, parishes, etc.  As well as maintaining and renewing business and occupational licenses and/or permits.

Vendor Requests - Research vendor requests by gathering information related to items purchased and usage to determine taxability and issue exemption certificates for exempt purchases.

Assist with other projects and/or tasks as needed.

Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax or finance related field is preferred.

3+ years of multi-state sales and use tax experience.

Prefer 3 to 6 years of general tax experience with a Big 4, large regional public accounting firm, government tax agencies, or corporate tax department is preferred.

Experience using accounting software such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle preferred

Experience using JDE and Vertex (or similar) is highly preferred.

Strong analytical and technical skills in interpreting and applying tax laws to complex tax matters preferred.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.

Experience with utilizing tax research platforms preferred.  (i.e. CCH, RIA Checkpoint or comparable)

Outstanding oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations.

Solid teamwork ethic and excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with peers and management at various levels.

Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a timely manner.

Individual required to be extremely well organized and detail oriented.

Should be able to work and interact with all levels of personnel.
